Ivo Pervan and Kalamota
Born in 1947 in Split, Croatia, Ivo Pervan’s passion for photography started in
secondary school. Since 1980, he has been a professional photographer. Engaged by
the Croatian National Tourist Board, his pictures have appeared in many tourist
publications, traveling the world, representing Croatia’s amazing scenery and heritage.
Over the course of time, many natural and historical landmarks have suffered from
the aggressions of modern life. Ivo Pervan’s life’s pursuit is to preserve the cultural,
natural and historical heritage of Croatia by capturing them on paper and in digital
format.
He has published 25 and co-published 60 photo monographs. His works have won seven prizes in world competitions and other prestigious international awards. In 1999
his work entered the Visual Arts Encyclopedia of Croatia. His latest book of photography
entitled “The Colors of Croatia” has been acclaimed both by Croatians and foreigners.
In 2006, Ivo Pervan was commissioned by the founders of Otok Znanja, a non profit
institution and owner of Hotel Villas Kolocep and its properties, to complete a
major photographic work on the Island of Kolocep, better known to the local population
as Kalamota.
The result of this work can now be seen by all visitors and islanders alike on the
walls of the restaurant and various other buildings of Hotel Villas Kolocep. In
addition to the permanent exhibition created on site at Hotel Villas Kolocep, a
traveling exhibition of 60 of his major pieces photographed on Kolocep Island will
be traveling Croatia and the world to bring awareness to the outside world of the
existence of this rare Dalmatian jewel in the heart of the Adriatic sea, just minutes away from the UNESCO World Heritage City of Dubrovnik.
Otok Znanja (Isle of Knowledge)
The story of a vision....
Can our Croatian islands become something more than a summer holiday destination,
which is forgotten as we take the last picture from the boat that, takes us back
ashore?
Can perhaps some of these beautiful islands become attractive places to live and
work in throughout the whole year?
The Isle of Knowledge Foundation (Otok Znanja), the owner of Hotel Villas Kolocep,
is a not-for-profit non-governmental institution devoted to the fulfillment of this
goal.
The main idea of our project is to have the Island of Kolocep alive throughout the
year through
the development of sustainable and environmentally friendly activities
in which learning, in association with world leaders in executive education, is
an integral part of the development process.
By choosing to stay at Hotel Villas Kolocep, you are helping us
preserve the fragile local economy while, indirectly, contributing to the efforts
deployed by the Otok Znanja foundation to bring its project to
fruition.
We hope Ivo Pervan will help you understand our love for the beauty of Kolocep and
our commitment to preserve its natural, historical and cultural heritage.
We thank you for your visit and hope you will enjoy Ivo Pervan's beautiful photographs
of Kalamota.
